Matthew Michael/Let’s Get Away

LET’S GET AWAY

By Matthew Michael

There’s a place that I call home
where the oak trees grow, where the moon light glows
but i wish that I was somewhere else
where the sound of city lights keeps me company at night

She’s got sweet personality
smiling from inside the window screen
and she’s opening the door to me
Just a stranger but I’ll take it
I’m alone and feeling shameless

Maybe we can go
When our work gets slow
we can take a ride to the other side of town

Life gets so complicated
but the pictures that you take
keep the memories in place and
I wish, that I’d settle for all this
but sometimes I need a fix to take its place

let’s get away

When the cold cuts through our bones
we can drive past all this snow
south to memphis we’ll go
where we can shed these clothes
and breathe again

And someday we will return
find a place to call our own
build the walls around our home
where we can rest these bones
in my arms you can retreat
in our love we can believe

Maybe we can be
Just two kids set free
I can pass the time, lookin into your eyes

Life gets so complicated
but the pictures that you take
keep the memories in place and
I wish, that I’d settle for all this
but sometimes I need a fix to take its place

let’s get away

Matthew Michael/Wandering Feet

Wandering Feet

by Matthew Michael

I threw a stone in the water
but the water was deep
So it sank to the bottom
under my feet

I’ve been moving like that stone
from the north to the south
Cutting through this heat
breathing air in through my mouth

I haven’t picked my head up
for more than one week
cause the ground is caked in mud
and I don’t trust my feet

With all this rain that’s falling
and no roof above my head
I question where I’m going
if I should turn around, turn around instead

I’m wandering through this life
with my eyes wide open
To see if I can find
what my heart’s been hoping
to find
In the mirror facing me

But I don’t think I’ll do it
and I think I’ll keep on through
With the only thing to guide me
a nightlight called the moon

Cause the places that I’ve gone to
and the places that I’ve seen
have more than one could ask for
back home in Hot Springs

Yeah on the road its easy
to lose your train of thought
and forget about the things
the hurt the pain the scars

Someday I might get lonely
no solid ground to stand
but for now I’ll keep on drifting
who knows where I will land

Yeah There’s a million ways to wander
I think I’ve had my share
but in the end it’s where you stand
when you can say you’re home

I’m wandering through this life
with my eyes wide open
To see if I can find
what my heart’s been hoping
to find
in the mirror facing me

MATTHEW MICHAEL

Matthew Michael was born and raised in a mid-sized suburban town in Central New Jersey. Growing up with a passion for creativity and a love for making noise, Matthew picked up his first guitar at age thirteen and, despite short stints where his creativity traversed other mediums, has kept his love of music alive as a musician through various pursuits. Playing in jazz bands throughout his high school years, Matthew continued to evolve as a musical artist in college, joining several local bands including Postmark Twain and The Constant, in which he currently plays bass. Matthew holds a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling, and hopes to integrate his loves into a lifelong journey.

Matt wrote the song Wandering Feet expressly for Ho Springs.
